Five top tips for working from home

How to motivate yourself and avoid any distractions.

With many companies on lock down and people self-isolating, there have never been so many working remotely as now.

For some working from home is a way of life, however, for the majority this is the first time that they have been in this situation. For those who have never had to be based at home here are five top tips to keep productivity levels up.

Keep the routine

One of the most important things you can do when you start your day is continue your normal routine as you would if you were getting ready to go to work. Most importantly, don’t be tempted to stay in your nightwear. Getting dressed accordingly will put you in the right mindset to go about your day.

Workspace

Set yourself up in an area that is as distraction free as possible. Don’t be in a room that has the temptation of the TV, or other items you associate with relaxation or pleasure.

Give yourself a break

Remember to take your usual breaks. Again, treat the situation as if it was a regular day in the office. If you normally take a coffee break at 10.30am, continue to do so. It is healthy to step away from your work and recharge.

Exercise

Some people run, swim, gym or go for a walk in their lunch hours. If you are restricted to the home, still try to take time to exercise. There are many things you can do in the home including sit ups,

lunges, and planks. Remember, there are many Apps which can help motivate you too so you can achieve your exercise goals.

 Stay in touch

Some people struggle with working remotely and can feel quite isolated. Checking in with your boss via email isn’t always enough to help some people’s mental health so phone your work colleagues. They might be just as grateful to hear from you.
